Kickin' It Together!

Teamwork is important on and off the field.  The women from the Washington Freedom understand the decisions you make affect everyone around you.  They encourage kids to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking.

Why do you think underage drinking doesn't fit with a healthy lifestyle?

As athletes, we have to keep healthy to perform at our best. But making smart choices is important for anyone, especially kids. We believe we need to encourage our youth to make good decisions for the benefit of their future. The only way to be able to make good decisions at all times is to say NO to underage drinking!

How much do you think about training and nutrition? Why is it important?

Nutrition is very important to me. I think every day about the things I'm putting in my body. The food you eat fuels the body- if I want to perform at my best, I need to have the proper nutrients in my body.

Underage drinking will lead to making impaired decisions. Impaired decisions can easily be bad decisions. When you make bad decisions about what to put into your body, you will not be very healthy. Underage drinking, or drinking excessively at any age, will sub optimize your health. Stay focused and enjoy life the right way. Don't drink underage.

Did you find yourself pressured to make choices that weren't healthy or smart?

In high school and college I felt pressured constantly to make choices that weren't healthy or smart. For me, I had to weigh the results of drinking to playing soccer. Which makes me happy? Which makes me feel good? Which gives me a future? Obviously, the answer is soccer.

Did you find yourself pressured to make choices that weren't healthy or smart?

Growing up in a large family, I had many chances to make choices for the "higher road." You will find that those achieving all the successes a professional athlete does, is closely tied into making the right choices in those difficult moments as a teenager.
