Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino has proclaimed today, Friday, May 20, 2011, Kristine Lilly Day in the city of Boston! As many of you probably know, Lilly is a soccer legend. She was a member of the winning 1999 World Cup US National Team. Later, she became captain of the Boston Breakers, the team with which she spent her entire professional career.
She is the most capped player in US Soccer history with 352 international appearances for the US Women's National Team. She has also appeared in five FIFA Women's World Cups and three Olympic Games. In her final season last year, she earned WPS All-Stars honors and guided the team to the WPS Super Semi-Final.
Lilly will be honored for her contribution to soccer at an event on City Hall Plaza in Boston at 2 pm today. The event is free to the public, so get out there and celebrate this historic player! Her #13 jersey will also be retired during the half-time ceremony at Harvard Stadium on Sunday.
Congrats, Kristine Lilly! You are a true SuperStar!
