A special message from Tyson Gay!

Hey guys! This is Tyson Gay, and I just wanted to let you all know how blessed I feel to have loyal and supportive fans like you. Thank you so much for your encouragement during my competitions these last few weeks and during my rehab over this last year— it means so much to me, and I really appreciate you guys.

I'm excited and proud to have another opportunity to represent the USA at the London Olympics next month. Beijing was a great experience in 2008 and I am hoping 2012 will be even better.  But, I know that in order for me to do that well, I'm going to have to make an effort to keep making  good choices and continue to live a healthy lifestyle in order to win that medal in London. Not just when I am training but 24/7 for these next few weeks…I need to be focused on good choices.

When I first became a part of the Ask, Listen, Learn team, they asked me a question. They asked me if I could give kids one piece of advice, what would it be? And I still believe in what I said to them: Don't ever place limits on what you can achieve.

But know this: in order to reach those goals and become the person you dream about being, you're going to have to make positive choices and live a healthy lifestyle. Making good decisions, being active and living healthy will lead you down the track to a better life. I've left a few ideas on how you, too, can stay active and healthy so that you can make your dreams come true.

Thanks again for all your support and wish me luck at the Games!

Tyson's Tips:

  • Get off the couch: Couches were made for slouches, and you're not one of them! Sure, everybody likes rest and relaxation, but that shouldn't be how you spend a lot of your time. Go play outside with friends, get up a game of baseball (one of my favorite sports as a kid) or just take your bike out for a spin around the neighborhood.

  • Challenge yourself: Don't be ok with just being “ok.” NBA Legend Tim Duncan said, “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best.” Find what activity you like to do and try your hardest to become the best at it! Today is another opportunity for you to be better than you were yesterday.

  • Get in a good routine: We are creatures of habit, so make sure the habits you develop are healthy ones! When you start to feel a little hungry between meals, reach for some fruit and a glass of water instead of a bag of chips and a soda. And instead of coming home and just playing video games, get in the habit of doing something active with a group of your friends. After you develop a healthy routine, you'll be surprised how much healthier and happier you'll be!
