Thank you, Atlanta!

Ask, Listen, Learn was with Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens in Atlanta this morning and we would like to send out a thank you to all 100 girls participating at Peachtree Presbyterian Church.

The girls had some great questions for the Attorney General - about underage drinking, drunk driving, and kids health and fitness. Attorney General Olens answered all of them, taking time with each and every question - an admirable quality to find in a state's Attorney General.

We had a great time presenting our program and playing our game with you, and hope you'll always remember to “Say YES to a healthy lifestyle, and NO to underage drinking!

Summer with DC Scores!

The Century Council has been a close partner of DC Scores,  and has recognized its Amy Nakamoto as one of its 20 People to Watch. As such, we were excited to visit their great summer program, Couch To Camp. In the past two weeks we visited Tubman Elementary and HD Cooke Elementary School, where the campers were keeping busy learning the fundamentals of soccer and scrimmaging one another.

To go along with the Ask, Listen, Learn message, the kids wrote poems about living a healthy lifestyle. After the writing, they let off some steam on our Ask, Listen, Learn interactive game. We'd like to thank DC Scores for providing area youth with positive activities that reinforce the importance of living a healthy lifestyle!

Read more for some poems DC Scores shared with us and pictures from the camp!

On our radar this morning: Teens Try New Approach to Tackle Underage Drinking and Driving

Teens Try New Approach to Tackle Underage Drinking and Driving

The Ask, Listen, Learn team is very proud of the 13 high school seniors in Galveston, Texas who worked to produce a video documentary, "Chronicles of a Teen Killer" for the Houston-Galveston Area Council.

The summer months with kids out of school are known to the area as to “100 deadliest days for drivers.” 366 teens were involved in fatal collisions during this time in 2009.

This group of teenagers is trying to change these statistics, similar to The Century Council's initiatives to stop underage drinking, by encouraging their peers to make safer decisions. Their emotional video includes interviews with a teen that killed her best friend by getting behind the wheel after drinking. With almost 6,000 YouTube hits, the group is definitely getting their message out.

Watch “Chronicles of a Teen Killer” and tell us what you think in the comments below.

Congrats to the USA Women's Soccer team!

120 minutes into the game, the team was one goal behind and one player short.  The girls did not give up. They weren't going to let their favored opponent, the Samba Queens, celebrate without a battle. At the 122nd minute, our very own Ask Listen Learn Superstar Abby Wambach headed the tying score into Brazil's goal. The game went to penalty kicks. All five US players connected with their shots, while the US goal keeper stopped two of Brazil's attempts. The Americans prevailed.

Happy Independence Day - Let's Eat!

It's no doubt that many of us may tend over-indulge in unhealthy foods at Independence Day cookouts and parties this weekend.  But while some may be eating caramel apple pies and chocolate cookies, you can choose to serve yourself a lighter dessert that's festive and easy to make to share with the party. Why not make something with JELL-O?!
