Congratulations, Jessica!

Last year we had an essay contest to recruit a captain for the Ask, Listen, Learn team. Today, we're proud to honor Jessica for winning that contest! Today we held a party honoring Jessica for her success, and presented her with an autographed helmet used during the last ski season by Ask, Listen, Learn “Super Star” and 2008 Winter Olympian Julia Mancuso, with whom Jessica was featured with in the December edition of SI Kids.

Ask Listen Learn Captain

How did Jessica become Captain? She wrote in her essay that she maintains an active lifestyle through participation in athletic activities. Those activities include participating in swim team, playing basketball, attending camps, playing softball, and 4-H. Specifically regarding underage drinking, Jessica also pointed out that she has “never used alcohol, and never, ever plan[s] to” and that “to be successful, you have to stop drinking, live better lives, and dream big.”

Dreaming big is definitely what it's about. We're honored to have Jessica as our team captain, and look forward to seeing what she'll accomplish!

Our Newest Partnership with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education

We are pleased to announce our newest partnership with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), respected leaders in the field of physical education. Our partnership will kick off at the 126th annual convention of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) in San Diego where our SuperStar Apolo Anton Ohno will participate in the largest gathering of physical educators in 2011 with us.

According to NASPE President Lynn Couturier, chair of the Physical Education Department, State University of New York at Cortland, “Physical education teachers and coaches are the perfect individuals to promote good health behaviors to large numbers of young people. Not only do we want all youngsters to enjoy a high level of physical activity and fitness, we want them to make good decisions which will impact their health and well-being. We are impressed with The Century Council's outstanding resources and materials and look forward to sharing them with our members.”

We couldn't agree more. We have been looking forward to this opportunity and are so happy to get it started!
