The Century Council brings Ask Listen Learn to Liberty, NC!
March 30, 2010Braving thunderstorms and tornadoes, The Century Council brought its Ask, Listen, Learn program to Liberty, NC on Monday for an event with Rep. Howard Coble (NC-06.)
We had a great event. The kids were excited to try the Ask, Listen, Learn interactive activity – learning about the dangers of underage drinking - while also breaking out in a sweat. Kids also learned about the Ask, Listen, Learn site, where they can register profiles and read about SuperStars such as Apolo Anton Ohno!
Thanks Principal Miller, and of course Rep. Coble for taking part in this event! And thanks to the kids of Northeastern Randolph Middle School for saying ‘YES’ to a healthy lifestyle and ‘NO’ to underage drinking!

125th AAHPERD National Convention & Exposition
March 16, 2010The Century Council is pleased to be exhibiting this year at the 125th American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) National Convention & Exposition.
AAHPERD is an alliance of five national associations, six district associations, and a Research Consortium serving 22,000+ members. AAHPERD is dedicated to the professional development of physical education and health education teachers, students, researchers and others who promote an active and healthy lifestyle every day. The Century Council will be demonstrating its new interactive Ask, Listen, Learn activity to convention attendees. In addition, The Century Council will be distributing Ask, Listen, Learn program-related materials.
The Convention and Exposition starts today and goes through the 19th. If you're there, stop by and check out the interactive activity and our materials!

March 15, 2010Our nationwide Ask, Listen, Learn tour with Apolo Anton Ohno came to a satisfying conclusion on Friday, in Apolo’s hometown of Seattle.
We knew it was going to be big. Apolo was excited to come home, and Seattle was excited to see him. There were a lot of people in Seattle excited about the program and Apolo’s involvement, and we’re sorry we couldn’t fit all of you in!
Robert McKenna, Attorney General of Washington, introduced Apolo. “Apolo is an excellent example for kids in our state, demonstrating that you can do anything when you choose dedication, determination, and living a healthy and active lifestyle and reject underage drinking.”
While the tour may be over, the Ask, Listen, Learn program’s work continues. March 12, 2010Today, the Ask, Listen, Learn tour will bring Apolo Anton Ohno to his hometown, Seattle. The Ask, Listen, Learn team and Apolo are very excited about this hometown event! As you all know, Apolo has been travelling up a storm to inspire kids all around the country. Seattle will be his fifth stop of the tour. March 9, 2010Apolo Anton Ohno is nearing the final leg of his Ask Listen Learn tour – today, he visited Chicago’s Smyth Elementary School. Despite a very early start and a couple media interviews, Apolo brought his energy and enthusiasm to a group of young kids eager to interact with the eight-time Olympic champion.

The next and final step for Apolo is Seattle, this Friday. We’re excited about this event, and so is Apolo. We look forward to seeing a great hometown welcome for Apolo!

March 9, 2010Apolo Anton Ohno visited El Rodeo Middle School yesterday to spread the message of Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix.
The kids of El Rodeo Middle School loved seeing Apolo, and enthusiastically played the Ask Listen Learn interactive activities, learning about the dangers of underage drinking as they did so. They also heard an inspiring message from Apolo Anton Ohno, who urged them to stay focused in order to succeed, and to always feel comfortable with themselves.
Los Angeles is the third stop in Apolo’s tour. So far, he has visited Denver and New York. Today, Apolo Anton Ohno will be bringing our message to students in Chicago, at Smyth Elementary School. From there, Apolo will be wrapping up his tour in his native Seattle on Friday!

March 6, 2010Today, Apolo Anton Ohno brought The Century Council's Ask Listen Learn program to Denver, Colorado, as part of our work motivating kids to say 'YES' to a healthy lifestyle and 'NO' to underage drinking.
The response to the program has been enormous. Every stop we've been on so far, kids and teachers both have been excited not only to see Apolo Anton Ohno, but to try out the program and learn more about the website! Check it out yourself at http://www.asklistenlearn.com.

Apolo Anton Ohno Continues to Spread the Ask, Listen, Learn Message Across the US
March 5, 2010Apolo Anton Ohno and The Century Council have been getting the word out about Ask, Listen, Learn all over the country!
Apolo encourages kids to say "YES" to a healthy lifestyle and "NO" to underage drinking at both a grassroots level by going into middle schools and speaking directly to kids, as well as in the mainstream media. In the past couple of days he has brought the Ask, Listen, Learn message to features on Fox News’ America’s News Room, Access Hollywood, and most recently this morning on Live with Regis and Kelly.
The fun has only just begun. Apolo is set to visit more middle schools across the US all next week! Keep watching our blog and following our Tweets and Facebook posts for more updates and photos as he travels to Colorado, California, Illinois, and his home-state Washington.

But can he withstand 430 hyper sixth-graders?
Today, Apolo Anton Ohno participated in an Ask, Listen, Learn event with The Century Council at Robert Wagner Middle School in New York City. This is part of a nationwide school tour, meant to encourage kids to say ‘YES’ to a healthy lifestyle and ‘NO’ to underage drinking.
“The decisions I made as a young teen heavily influenced where I am today. In fact, many of the decisions I’ve made off-the-ice have contributed most to my success,” said Apolo Anton Ohno. “I truly believe that healthy habits and positive choices start at childhood which is why I’m proud to establish my own Foundation and work with The Century Council to spread healthy messages, including “say no” to underage drinking, to kids across the country.”
Apolo’s nationwide tour will continue. Next is an appearance Saturday morning at Greenwood Athletic Club in Greenwood Village, CO, outside of Denver.

Apolo Anton Ohno Partners with The Century Council
March 3, 2010The most decorated U.S. Winter Olympian in history and star of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Apolo Anton Ohno has partnered with The Century Council and its Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix program. Ohno, in conjunction with the newly formed Apolo Anton Ohno Foundation, will embark on a five-city tour to schools throughout the U.S. encouraging kids to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking. The Apolo Anton Ohno Foundation, established by the eight-time Olympic medalist, will focus on providing youth of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds with the opportunity to play sports, be active and learn about the benefits of making responsible and positive choices.
The post-Olympic tour will kick off on Thursday, March 4th in New York City and will continue with visits to Denver, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle. Ohno, in partnership with The Century Council, will bring the Ask, Listen, Learn program to schools across the country through a series of interactive sessions with middle school children to encourage them to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking.

2010 Winter Olympic Games Wrap Up
March 1, 2010We've had a fantastic time watching the 2010 Winter Games the past two weeks! Did you watch our SuperStar Apolo Anton Ohno as he skated his way into history? Now the holder of eight medals, he is the most decorated Winter Olympian in history.
It was an honor to be a part of the action. We brought our Ask, Listen, Learn interactive activity to Canada to encourage kids to stay active. Kids and parents were welcomed into the Spyder-US Ski Team House in Whistler to play the game and meet two members of the U.S. Winter Ski Team, Kikkan Randall and Andy Newell.
